Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to understand the knowledge, coping skills, and assertion behavior of young women about secondhand smoke, and to provide basic data necessary for the development of a smoking prevention education program. 9.

Methods: This study were 197 students attending a middle school located in K-do, and data collection was conducted using a structured questionnaire for two weeks in December 2016. The S.P.S.S. 18.0 statistical program was used for data analysis.

Results: As a result of the study, verbal coping skills for secondhand smoke (¥â=.611, p£¼.001) were a significant variable,
which explained 31.5% of young women¡¯s secondhand smoke assertion behavior.

Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it is necessary to develop an educational program that cultivates verbal coping skills against secondhand smoke so that active claims can be made for the prevention of secondhand smoke.
